put past (third-person singular simple present puts past, present participle putting past, simple past and past participle put past)

  1. Used other than figuratively or idiomatically: see put,‎ past.
    He put the ball past the goalkeeper.
  2. (idiomatic, chiefly in the negative, ditransitive) To consider (something) to be not possible for (someone) (to do); (see also put it past).
    Would he go so far as to call the police? I wouldn't put it past him.
    I wouldn't put even that past him. In fact, I'd put nothing past him.
  3. To conceal or disguise (something) so that it is undetected by (someone) (see also put one past).
    You'll never put that wheeze past our eagle-eyed boss.
