punssi
Appearance
Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Swedish punsch, from English punch.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]punssi
- A liqueur based on arrack, neutral spirits and flavorings. Originates in Sweden and is mostly not known outside Nordic countries. There's no established English name for it, but "arrack liqueur" might be a good bet.
Usage notes
[edit]Sometimes translated as "punch" into English, but that's simply an error, although the words apparently have a common origin. "Punch" is booli in Finnish.
