[edit]Probably from Late Latin praebenda (“a payment”), from Latin praebendus (“which is to be proferred”). Compare Italian provenda, profenda, Old French provende. Cf. also the neological doublet prebendă.

- (archaic, regional) payment (usually consisting of grains, cereals, and other produce) for an agricultural worker or ploughboy
- (archaic, regional) part of the offering or alms given to the church singers
