Appearance
English
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From pool + nappy, because the nappy is made to be worn in a swimming pool.
Noun
[edit]pool nappy (plural pool nappies)
- (Commonwealth, Ireland, rare) Synonym of swim diaper.
- 2024, Chris Baker, Swimming Sydney: A Tale of 52 Swims, NewSouth, →ISBN, unnumbered page:
- Many parents might baulk at the idea of teaching babies as young as three months to swim. Apart from the hassles of pool nappies, cold change rooms and chlorine in little ones' eyes, it might seem counterintuitive, as well as highly stressful for parents and babies, to teach bubs to swim before they can even crawl.
Usage notes
[edit]- In the Commonwealth and Ireland, swim nappy is the most common term; elsewhere, such as in the United States and Canada, it is called a swim diaper.
