From Ancient Greek πλουτοκρατία (ploutokratía, rule of the wealthy), from πλουτοκρατέω (ploutokratéō, I rule through wealth), from πλοῦτος (ploûtos, wealth) + κρατέω (kratéō, I rule) (from κράτος (krátos, power”, “might)).
