  1. A member of the clade Platynota of anguimorph lizards.
    • 1995, Ambika Prasad Diwan, Embryology of Reptiles, page 150:
      Autotomy has such an obvious survival value that it is interesting to inquire why the ability to perform has been lost, reduced, or never gained in such groups as agamids, some iguanids, chameleons, a few geckos and skinks, and all platynotids.

      Mosaursaurids[sic] are fossil marine lizards (DeBraga and Carroll, 1993) part of the varanoid (platynotid) clade within Anguimorpha (Lee, 1997).
