[edit]Borrowed from French plastron, from Italian piastrone, augmentative of piastra (“thin metal plate”), short for impiastro (“plaster”), from Latin emplastrum (compare Spanish emplastro), from Ancient Greek ἔμπλαστρον (émplastron, “daub, salve”).
