From Vulgar Latin *petrosīnu (compare Old French persin, whence French persil), from Latin petroselīnum or petroselīnon, from Ancient Greek πετροσέλῑνον (petrosélīnon, parsley), from πέτρος (pétros, rock, stone) + σέλῑνον (sélīnon, celery).
