Etymology

[edit]

From pissa (pee) +‎ Liisa (common female name).

  • According to Heikki Paunonen, a professor of Finnish language, the word may be related to the term kusipää (bastard, asshole, literally piss-head).
  • According to folk etymology, from public urination when intoxicated, although this is by no means the distinctive feature of the stereotype.[1]

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /ˈpisːɑˌliːsɑ/, [ˈpis̠ːɑ̝ˌliːs̠ɑ̝]
  • Rhymes: -iːsɑ
