- A perennial North American herb (Spigelia marilandica), sometimes cultivated for its showy red blossoms.
- An annual South American and West Indian plant (Spigelia anthelmia).
- The root of Spigelia marilandica or Spigelia anthelmia, used as a powerful vermifuge.
