From Proto-Balto-Slavic *pilˀḗˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *pl̥h₁-éh₁-ti, from *pleh₁- (to fill). Cognate with Latvian pilēt (to drop, drip), pildīt (to fill), pilt (to drip, flow).[1]
