Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀪𑀡𑀤𑀺 (bhaṇadi), from Classical Sanskrit भणति (bhaṇati), from Vedic Sanskrit भनति (bhanati) ,from Proto-Indo-Aryan *bʰánati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰánati, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰn̥h₂-é-ti, innovative nasal-infixed zero-grade thematic present *bʰeh₂- (to speak).
