[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Possibly linked to Ancient Greek πιττάκιον (pittákion) (cf. Latin pittacium (“label; patch”)), or from a Vulgar Latin root *piticus. Compare Aromanian peaticã (“rag, scrap, patch”), peatic/peaticu, Calabrian pettica ("leather band, strip"); cf. also Spanish pedazo (“piece”).
