Etymology

Literally, "nun's fart". Supposedly derived from earlier pit de monja "nun's breast", a reference to their shape.

Usage notes

Not to be confused with the similarly-named French pastry pet-de-nonne, which is a type of choux pastry known in Catalan as bunyol de vent.
