From Proto-Finnic *përmu (compare Karelian permu), potentially from Proto-Finno-Ugric [Term?] (compare Northern Khanty [script needed] (purəm), Hungarian féreg) or alternatively borrowed from Proto-Germanic [Term?] (compare Old High German bremo).
