[edit]From Proto-Semai *pəlooᵍŋ (“roof”), from Proto-Aslian *pəluaŋ (“thatch, roof”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *(p)laŋ ~ *(p)laiŋ (“thatching-grass”). Cognate with Semnam plɔːŋ, Khmer ភ្លាំង (phlĕəng), Palaung pləŋ, Kuy plaŋ, Khmu plàːŋ, Khasi phlang, Vietnamese tranh.
