[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Swedish pelargon. The dialectal variants like pela(r)kuu(ni) show a more direct borrowing, while the standard form pelargoni has been brought closer to the Latinate Pelargonium.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]pelargoni
- pelargonium, storksbill; geranium (any plant in the genus Pelargonium)
Usage notes
[edit]Pelargoniums are often commonly known in English as geraniums, because the two genera were earlier regarded as being one, called Geranium.
