From Proto-Balto-Slavic *peliā (compare Latvian pele (mouse), Old Prussian pele (harrier)), from Proto-Indo-European *pelH- (gray) (compare Lithuanian pálšas (ashy gray), pìlkas (gray)).[1]

The computing sense is a semantic loan from English mouse.
