This looks like a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *per- (“to cross, pass, carry forth”), probably via a Latin borrowing, as the word can't derive from Proto-Celtic into the above PIE root via sound laws. The suffix -hau suggests a denominal, but from what noun?”
