Formed as para- +‎ -philiae; equivalent to the Ancient Greek πᾰρᾰ́ (părắ, beside) + φῐλῐ́αι (phĭlĭ́ai) (philiai; nominative plural form of φῐλῐ́ᾱ (phĭlĭ́ā), philia, “friendship”, “love”, “affection”, “fondness”); compare paraphilia.
