[edit]Attested late, first in Belarusian.[1] Compare Lithuanian pakulos, Russian па́кля (páklja).
Boryś ties the word with Lithuanian kúlti, which would ultimately make it related to kłuć.[2] (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
