From pad +‎ stone.

Noun

padstone (plural padstones)

1. A simple type of building foundation consisting of a stone which both spreads the weight of a wooden building out on the ground and keeps the wood off of the ground. A staddle stone is a type of padstone.
2. A pad to spread the weight of a point load in a wall.
