[edit]Compound of padat (“packed”) + karya (“work”), compare to Japanese 労働集約 (rōshūyaku, “labor-intensive”, literally “labour + consolidate, aggregate”) and Chinese 勞動密集/劳动密集 (láodòng mìjí, “labor-intensive”, literally “labor-dense”).
