[edit]From Proto-Central Pacific *paa-rara (“to toast, to expose to direct heat” – Tahitian pārara “to roast meats, to soften banana leaves over a open flame”) related to Proto-Polynesian *rara from Proto-Oceanic *raraŋ (compare with Fijian dandang (“to warm up in front of a fire”), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *daŋdaŋ (compare with Malay dandang “boiler”, Tagalog dangdang and darang (“to roast on hot coals”)[1][2]
