Etymology
[edit]Derived from Sanskrit प्रापण (prāpaṇa) by deretroflection of the suffix of the unattested inherited form in response to the lack of /r/ in the Pali root, so from the root ap + -ana. The corresponding Pali verbs are pappoti and pāpuṇāti.
