pédé comme un phoque

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

French

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Literally, queer as a seal. It has been argued it was initially the homophonic pédé comme un foc (queer as a jib), a reference to sodomy. It is therefore possible the expression originated among sailors, and foc turned into phoque through popular unfamiliarity with naval vocabulary.

Adjective

[edit]
