  1. (biochemistry) Any of many enzymes which catalyze oxidation reactions, especially ones using molecular oxygen.
    • 1915, “Hemoglobin in Anemia”, in American Medicine, volume 21, page 22:
      The effects of hemoglobin in anemia and chlorosis, and even in tuberculosis, are due to its triple action; it acts opotherapeutically, through the blood oxydases, which it contains when properly prepared.
