[edit]From Dutch autoriteit, from Middle Dutch auctoriteit, from Old French auctorité, from Latin auctoritas (“invention, advice, opinion, influence, command”). The current form is influenced by the suffix -itas. Cognate with Piawai Malay autoriti.
