optimize out (third-person singular simple present optimizes out, present participle optimizing out, simple past and past participle optimized out)

  1. (transitive, programming) To omit (some portion of program logic) through optimization, when it is found to be unused or unnecessary.
The loop that counts from 1 to 1,000,000 is optimized out by the compiler, because nothing happens inside the loop and the value is not used afterwards.
