- Any of a group of filamentous protists variously classified as the phylum Oomycota or the class Oomyctes in a more broadly circumscribed phylum.
- Synonyms: water mould, water mold

- Marine oomycotes are eukaryotic mycelial decomposers that have swimming, biflagellate propagules and lie in the Kingdom Chromista (or Protoctista), phylum Oomycota.
