[edit]From Proto-Hmong *ʔɲəŋᴬ (“to be at, to live”). Related to Proto-Hmong *jəŋᶜ (“to be”) (whence yog (“to be”)), as well as probably Proto-Mien *ʔjəmᴬ (“to be at, to live”).[1]
