[edit]From Proto-Semai *ɲ̩ɲɔɔ̃n (“near”), from Proto-Aslian [Term?], from Proto-Mon-Khmer *()ɲɔɔn (“near”). Cognate with Old Khmer ñaṅ ~ ñeṅ ~ ñiṅ (“near”), Proto-Monic *ɲo̤n (“to be near, close”), whence Mon ညောန် (ɲòn, “to be near, close, to be tight, to be crowded”).
