From nut +‎ driver, attested since circa 1900 and widespread in various industries since the 1920s; modeled on the earlier screwdriver.

nutdriver (plural nutdrivers)

  1. A hand tool for driving nuts and bolts; similar to a screwdriver but with a different tip, usually a hexagonal socket (recess) for driving fasteners with external hexagonal heads. Suitable for low- and medium-torque applications.
