nustóti (third-person present tense nustója, third-person past tense nustójo)[1]

  1. to cease, stop
    Synonyms: liautis, baigti, sustoti
    Nustojo lyti.It has stopped raining.
  2. (transitive with genitive) to lose
    Synonyms: prarasti, netekti
    nustoti prototo lose one's mind
    Nustojau savo motinos.I lost my mother.

Usage notes

Like liautis and unlike baigti,[2] nustoti can take either the infinitive of a verb or its past active participle as complement:

Nustojau pirkti knygas (with infinitive, more common) - I have stopped buying books.
Nustojau pirkusi knygas (past active participle) - I have stopped buying books
