Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]noki (“soot”) + varis (“crow”)
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]nokivaris
Usage notes
[edit]- Until recently nokivaris (which is rarely seen in Finland) was believed to be just a black variant of hooded crow or grey crow (varis, which is common in Finland). Therefore many dictionaries give "carrion crow" as translation for varis.
