From Proto Fula-Serer *nof, from Proto-Atlantic. Cognate with Serer nof, Wolof nopp, Laalaa nof, Noon nof, Nalu naw, Biafada nufa, Palor nuf, Mbulungish nop.[1] Possibly related to Sherbro nui, Mmani nu, Mansoanka ni, Gola kenu.
