From Proto-Inuit *niviaqcǝɣa- (girl, young unmarried woman), from Proto-Eskimo *nǝviaʁcǝɣa (girl, young unmarried woman). Compare niviarsiaq (girl, young unmarried woman), and niviaq (girl).
