Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish نیزن (neyzen, a flutist),[1] from Ottoman Turkish نی (ney) or نای (nay, a reed-flute, a pipe), from Persian نی (ney) or نای (nây),[2] morphologically ney +‎ -zen. Cognates with Azerbaijani neyzən.
