1. The amount of space in a newspaper or broadcast news show that remains for journalism after advertising has been placed; the amount of content a news provider needs to create in every publishing cycle.

   We don’t have enough room in the news hole to publish your story tonight.

   The news hole just keeps shrinking. Soon, the paper will be just ads.
