Navajo
[edit]Etymology
[edit]na- (atelic, circuital) + -y- (3rd person object prefix) + -∅- (3rd person subject prefix) + -∅- (classifier) + -ʼeesh (continuative imperfective stem of root -ʼEEZH, “to lead — 2+ objects”).
Verb
[edit]neiʼeesh
- he/she is leading them around
- he/she keeps them, has them (persons or animals under the subject's control)
Usage notes
[edit]The stem used for leading two or more objects is different from the stem used for leading only one object. For leading only one object, see neilóóz.
