[edit]From necaurspīdīgs (“opaque”) + -ums (with necaurspīdīgs from ne- + caurspīdīgs (“transparent”), caurspīdīgs from caur (“through”) + spīdīgs (“shining, shiny”) and spīdīgs from spīde (“shine, sheen”) + -īgs).
