[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Compare Italian nastro. Possibly from a Vulgar Latin root *nastula, from Proto-West Germanic *nastilu, or alternatively borrowed from the Italian word several centuries ago in the early modern era, originally in a form *nastru, with a plural *nastruri, with the loss of the first -r- and made singular analogically later. Also compare Aromanian nastur.
