[edit]The Caighdeán Oifigiúil spelling of mudharlán (spelt muġarlán with unetymological lenited g in Patrick's Dineen's Foclóir Gaedhilge agus Béarla (1927)), an irregular change from mudharnán, from Old Irish mudornán (“ankle”), from Old Irish mudhorn (“ankle”) + -án (a diminutive suffix).[1]
