[edit]Ultimately from Medieval Latin mumia, from Arabic مُومِيَاء (mūmiyāʔ), from Persian مومیا (mumyâ). Compare German Mumie, French momie, Italian mummia, Polish mumia, Russian мумия (mumija), Yiddish מאַמי (mami).
