[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish مقابله (muḳābele, “a being or becoming opposite, facing another, meeting any action with its like, a reward or retaliation”),[1] from Arabic مُقَابَلَة (muqābala, “interview, meeting, encounter, opposition”), verbal noun of قَابَلَ (qābala, “to be opposite, to confront, to face, to meet”).[2]
