[edit]Likely from Proto-Slavic *mьrenъ + -ka, possibly related to marzyć. Late attestation and the literary nature of the word speak in favour of its coinage based on the Ukrainian мрі́йний (mríjnyj, “dreamy”), from мрі́ти (mríty, “to dream”).[1]
