1. (organic chemistry) A pyrrolizidine alkaloid found in the rattlebox plants (of genus Crotalaria) that is poisonous to livestock and humans.
   • 2010, Eric David Morgan, Biosynthesis in Insects‎^[1], page 320:

     Generally the pyrrolizidine alkaloids exist in plants as N-oxides, as shown for monocrotaline and seneciphylline.
