Etymology
[edit]From Italian mirtillo and French myrtille, both from Medieval Latin myrtillus, diminutive of Latin myrtus (“myrtle tree”), from Ancient Greek μύρτος (múrtos, “myrtle”), from a Semitic root meaning bitter (compare Arabic مُرّ (murr, “bitter”), Hebrew מֹר (mor, “bitterness, acrimony”)).
