[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish موقع, from Arabic مَوْقِع (mawqiʕ).
Noun
[edit]mevki (definite accusative mevkiyi, plural mevkiler)
- place, site
- 1942 January 10, Son Telgraf:
- Uzak Şartka muharebe Singapur müstahkem mevkilerine intikal etmek üzeredir.
- (please add an English translation of this quotation)
- (business) situation or stand of a person
Usage notes
[edit]- All three of mevkii, mevkiı, and mevkiyi have been used as the definite accusative. The first two are older, based on the original Arabic pronunciation with an ayin at the end of the word.
