Apheretic variant of now formal ymenyn, Middle Welsh ymenyn, from Proto-Celtic *amban (compare Cornish amanyn, Breton amann, Old Irish imb), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃éngʷn̥ (compare Latin unguen (grease), Alemannic German Anke).[1]
